Out front
Fruit and veg on the pavement, the way it should be.
Crates on the trestle tables, prices by the kilo, and stock that moves fast enough to stay worth buying.
Okra, flat beans, oyster mushrooms, kohlrabi, black turnip, three kinds of chilli, herbs by the bunch and parsley that has not been sitting in a plastic pillow for a week. In summer the front tables fill with watermelon by the slice, cherries, apricots and figs.
It is the part of the shop that changes most from week to week — which is rather the point.

The freezer
Börek and yufka, pierogi, mici, samosas, filo, molokhia, frozen fruit, and Häagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry's on rotation.
Store cupboard
Rice and bulgur in 5kg and 10kg sacks, pulses, flour, pasta, tinned tomatoes, tahini, oils in five-litre tins.
Tea & coffee
Turkish leaf tea by the kilo, Ceylon, Mokhtar, Turkish coffee, Lavazza, Jacobs Krönung and Prince ground coffee.
Household
Ariel, Bold, Omo, Bingo, Fairy and Andrex, plus the European brands you grew up with and cannot find in the big four.

The off licence, and everything else you came in for.
Fully licensed for beers, wines and spirits — European lagers by the case, cider, raki, vodka and a wall of spirits behind the till.
Alongside it sits the newsagent end of the shop: soft drinks, energy drinks, confectionery, tobacco, top-ups, cards and the odd emergency phone charger. Photo ID is required if you look under 25 — no exceptions, and no offence meant.

Do you sell Turkish food?
Extensively. Turkish cheeses and dairy, Bodrum oils and tomato paste, leaf tea, helva, lokum, Ülker biscuits, Tadım nuts and seeds, pickles, pulses and the frozen börek cabinet.
Do you sell Polish and Romanian food?
Yes. There is a full Polish chiller of kabanosy, krakowska, twaróg and śmietana, and Romanian shelves with măsline, zacuscă, telemea, mici and Eugenia biscuits, restocked weekly.
Do you sell ordinary British groceries too?
Of course — milk, eggs, butter, Warburtons, Tetley, Heinz, Ariel and Andrex. The point of the shop is that you do not have to go anywhere else afterwards.
Are you licensed to sell alcohol?
Yes, we are a licensed off licence for beers, wines and spirits. Photo ID is required if you look under 25.
