Department 02

Bread all day,
not just at nine.

British loaves and baguettes, Turkish pide and sesame simit, pitta, naan and lavash — and a pastry counter that has ruined a great many diets.

A bakery shelf tells you what a neighbourhood eats. Ours has a bloomer next to a pide next to a stack of lavash, and all three sell out.

Bread comes through the day rather than in one delivery, so the shelf is restocked instead of emptied. Sourdough rounds, tin loaves, seeded browns, long baguettes at £1.20, potato bread, pitta by the pack — plus the Turkish side of the counter: sesame simit still warm from the basket, açma, poğaça and Ramadan pide when the season comes round.

Then the sweet end. Baklava by the tray or the piece, kadayıf, şöbiyet, trileçe, Ülker biscuits by the economy pack and 7Days croissants for the school run.

Good to know

Bakery questions.

What time is the bread out?

Bread arrives and is baked off through the day rather than all at once, so there is usually something warm on the shelf from opening until the evening. Simit and pastries go quickest on a Saturday morning.

Do you sell Turkish bread and simit?

Yes — sesame simit, pide, lavash and Turkish flatbreads sit alongside British bloomers, baguettes, pitta and naan.

Do you sell baklava?

We do, by the tray and by the piece, along with kadayıf, şöbiyet and trileçe from the pastry counter.

Can I order a tray of baklava or bread for an event?

Yes. Give the shop a day's notice and trays can be made up for parties, offices and celebrations.
